Something I did not realize right away when ordering antennas for my transmitters and receivers is that not everything is SMA. SMA is the connector most people are familiar with from using a wifi router. Those black antennas that stick out of the back of the wifi router use an SMA connector, which resembles a co-ax cable connector, but smaller.
The simple message here is that there is SMA and RP-SMA (reverse polarity) connectors. If you buy the wrong antenna - for instance an SMA antenna plugging into an RP-SMA receiver, it won't work. Use this simple graphic to see the difference and buy the right accessories for your devices.
